Playby: Alica Keys
Appearance: Rita’s skin is a shade darker than tan, most of her skin any ways. There are patches of black Dragon scales across her skin. There are some at the right base of her neck, and some on the small of her back where a tail would normally sprout, but the most useful is are the ones that take up nearly all her left forearm and inch onto the back of her hand. She stands at 5’9” which helps add to her intimidating appearance. Out of her back sprout four small wings, arranged like that of a fairie but the black wing are shaped like those of a dragon. Her body is lean but taunt muscles rest under her skin from years of fighting and hard work. Her hair is black and she braids her hair into cornrow to keep it out of the way. Though all these things he most striking appearance is her eyes which are gray, but also pupiless.
She keeps her clothes simple and rarely wears something that doesn’t fit comfortably. She is also practical, wearing mostly dark browns that hide stains, although her shirts tend to have a wider variety of color. She also wears boots more often than not. She also wears her brown leather working vest whenever she is out at sea which is covered in pockets filled with useful objects, and empty ones for storing stolen loot. She wears rings on her fingers with her favorite type of gems, but they are of poor quality because she doesn’t want to ruin her good jewels
Personality: Rita isn’t much of talker and she never really has been she has mastered the art answering any questions in a single word or even just a look. Most of her looks are rather violent, and meant to intimidate, something else she has gotten very good at. Years of living on her own on the streets have given her the street smarts to judge when she is being played. She has more than once played the blind card, where she would pretend to be blind to take advantage of a situation, but this is rare.
Rita’s pride is another one of larger attributes. Because of her strength and skill in fighting she normally wins the fights she had with the brutes that seem to be involved in the pirating business. She also had her pride of a Dragon that she hold close to her. Even if she wanted to hate Dragons because of her father and step father she wouldn’t be able to because she had the soul of a Dragon and she wouldn’t give it up for only anything. Some times she can imagine being able to transform into her true form and fly through the skies… Although she knows it is something she will never be able to do.
Recently Rita has found the meaning of loyalty and companionship in the form of Hawk Black. She wasn’t really sure when it started but over the years of working together Rita has finally found a place she can call home, even if it is in a person. Rita is not so good with feelings, while she has them like everyone she doesn’t often understand them except when it comes to anger. On that note she has trouble reading other people’s emotions, especially the kinder ones.
Personal Beliefs: Apathy pure and simple. She doesn’t really care what anyone else does in their own, but if they mess with the captain…
Likes: Jewels, the Sea, Fighting, Flying
Dislikes:Her Parents, children, Talkative people (Exception of Hawk)
Job: Pirate, First Mate to Hawk Black on the Lilly Jane
Current residence: 3
Personal Motto: Anything can break….
~~~
Special abilities:she can summon fire through her hands, very-tough skin where scales are, short distance flight, above average strength
Family: She has disowned her family and does not talk about them. She only vaguely keeps in touch with her younger sister.
History: Rita was born to a Dragon and a half Human half Fairie. She was the oldest of three followed by a brother then a sister. Rita doesn’t really remember much of her Father, only that she wished she could be like him. Her favorite memory of him was when he had taken her flying, in his true form. They had formed a special bond, Rita being the child with the most Dragon like features and attitude. If life had stayed like that she might have grown up to be at least a little normal.
When Her sister was only two her father left. Rita really didn’t blame him… Her mother was not the nicest of people, and oh did she cling to him. It probably was nice at first but Rita knew what it was like to want to be free. Her mother was sad and lonely for a year before she started dating again and before long she had a step-father, a half Dragon like herself. Rita never really liked him, missing her old father, but he was nice enough.
When the family came to a rough spot no one took it well. Rita’s step-father started to turn to the bottle to calm his nerves, and before long he was getting drunk every night. At first it had just been annoying, he would sit in the living room mumbling to himself, if he was even home. Then he started to get angry at anything and everything and he started beating her mother, but soon was on Rita as well. Rita managed to take the brunt of it after a while, protecting her siblings as much as she could. Before long her mother also started to beat her, or at least try but Rita could easily subdue her.
This went on for years, the children hiding any evidence of the beatings before school, although they had found ways to avoid the house. It was during this time when they were all wandering around the downtown island when they were attacked. They were only muggers and Rita was able to fend them off but not before her brother was stabbed in the stomach. They rushed him to the hospital as soon as possible, but they were too late and he went into a coma that he would never wake up from. They were able to keep him alive for 2 months before their money started to run out her step father made them pull the plug on the life line. That was the last straw and Rita blew up at her step-father right outside the hospital. Security had to pull them apart before they killed one another. In the end they decided to send Rita’s 10 year old sister to their Aunt on Royal Island and soon as she was gone Rita left the cluster.
She had no money to her name and she ended up hichhicking and flying and walking her way across islands and clusters. When she reached the Seaway cluster she decided to settle down a little and stop traveling, figuring she was far enough from her family to ever hear from them again. And so she started making money by stealing, and the occasional fighting tournament for prize money. She ran into Hawk black not long after one of these tournaments where some of the losers tried to take her third place money. She proceeded to kick their asses, not knowing Hawk was watching. Hawk insisted on talking to her even after Rita repeatedly showed her disinterest. They ended up have lunch before Rita left.
Rita didn’t think of Hawk again until about a month later when she was eating in a pub and all of the sudden a ruckus was started, and who was at the center of it but Hawk. Long story short Rita helped to convince the pirates whom Hawk was trying to sign up for to, and to this she still has no idea why she ever signed up with the crazy woman. They worked pretty much side by side for many years and they grew a bond. For Rita it was one of respect and loyalty. While it was that for Hawk as well she knew that the younger woman looked at her with eyes that begged for more than that. The half Dragon did not know how she felt so she said nothing, and even now that they are living together and Hawk is the captain of the ship they once swabbed the deck of she still doesn’t know.
Rita's eyes looked all over Hawk's face trying to find any sign to see how much time she had. That was the thing about stomach wounds... depending what was hit the person could die within minutes, or go through hours of excruciating pain before passing on. Rita wasn't sure which was worse but she knew that she needed to get Hawk to a hospital... now. When she heard the gurgle of Hawk's own blood Rita felt her self break on the inside. "Oh God..." she muttered, almost sobbed. She leaned forward and put her forehead against hawks as the Captain struggled to speak and Rita struggled to keep from tearing up. It had been so long since she had felt like she wanted to cry but when Hawk apologizes the feeling only grew worse. Rita was terrified; she didn't know what she was going to do if she didn't have Hawk. But She wasn't going to let Hawk die. Her hands still at Hawk's stomach wrapped around the hilt of Hawk's dagger, knuckles turning white from gripping to hard "Stay with me..." Rita muttered her own eyes closing. "Just hang on... if any one can do it you can..." Before she could say any more she heard the sound of someone stepping onto the catwalks. And Rita remembered who had done this to Hawk...
If anyone had seen how quickly her faced changed as she spun to scowl at the attackers they would have been terrified. But Rita's face couldn't show all the hatred she felt. She felt out an animalistic roar and with about even attempting to control it she threw a ball at fire at the man who had climbed the ladder. He was incinerated, and so was the wall behind him. Rita created two more fireballs and threw them at the Ladders leading up so Hawk would be safe. She took one last look at Hawk before jumping off the catwalks. She was able to steer herself so she landed on one of her enemy's back, sending his face into the ground. She stayed crouched and smashed her fist into the back of his skull with all the strength she had inherited and the poor souls skull was crushed under her knuckles. She straightened up, blood dripping from her fist, and glared at the other men with her eyes now using her dragon vision. Rita didn't wait for them to react and lunged at one of them, grabbing him by the face and digging in with her nails, but that’s not how he was going to die. She dragged him over so her was now between her and a gun and the shooter realized to late as he emptied two round into his comrade. Rita dropped the dead man and rushed forward to run Hawk's dagger, which she hadn't let go of, into his stomach, but pulled up, cutting into his rib cage.
She pulled the dagger out and grabbed the man’s arm and turned around. With the gun still in his Hand Rita pulled the trigger and emptied the clip into three more men before finally dropping him. She repositioned her grip on Hawk's dagger and threw it at the man furthest from her and it hit him right between the eyes. Another man came after her, sword raised above his head. Rita caught his wrist, and twisted it, making a distinctive crack as she broke it. She then punched him right in the face to daze him long enough so she could reach out to take his head in both hands and twist swiftly, breaking something much more important then his wrists. Three more left. For two she used her favorite attack, two bullet-sized fireballs, into their chest and stayed there for a moment before exploding. The last one, realizing he wasn't going to defeat the dragon on his own, tried to run. Rita gave chase and as they passed the body of Mr. Dagger-in-the-head, and Rita took it out barely stopping as she did so. She easily caught up and grabbed his shoulder to spin him around and grabbed him by the throat and lifted him up into the air, choking the air out of him as she squeezed. She wished she could have watched him struggle helplessly, but she didn't have the time and slit his throat under her hand and dropped him.
Rita jumped up into the air and ran to Hawk, all the anger that had previously been they gone as she looked at the one she loved, even if she didn't realize how much until she threatened to be taken from her. Rita checked only to make sure that Hawk was still alive before taking her in her arms and jumping down again and running toward the door. She ran as fast as she could and thanked what ever gods would take her thanks that she was on the same island as the hospital as she took to the air to get there faster. She wasn't sure how long it took to get there but people moved out of her way as she carried Hawk in and explained that Hawk had been attacked by a gang and had been stabbed. And then they took Hawk away and wouldn't let her follow, it took a few people to keep her restrained until finally her body started to feel exhausted and she practically collapsed into a chair.
